Wheels Up for Ecuador Day 3

On the third day of my trip to Ecuador, I explored the town of Montanita and enjoyed a "spa day" of sorts.

Montanablu Hotel

My daughter, Sierra, joined me at my hotel the previous night. She still had a few nights left at her hostel, which was included in her 8 day Spanish/Surf camp, but she was happy to move into my hotel and I was glad to have her company.

When we looked out the window of our Montanablu Hotel room, first thing in the morning, we were excited to see blue skies. Sierra had been in Montanita almost a week with only a brief glimpse of blue. We hurried outside for a quick walk on the beach before returning to our hotel for breakfast.

The Montanablu Hotel is right on the beach and it was the nicest hotel I found at a reasonable price. The next step up was about 4x the price.

Montanita Beach

After breakfast, Sierra headed out for her last day of Spanish/Surf camp... a fun day of surfing at Playa Las Tunas. And, with the sun still shining, I headed back to the beach by our hotel. I wanted to get a massage after my long journey but I also wanted to enjoy the sunny morning on the beach. It turned out that I could do both!

Soon after settling onto the beach, I was approached by a woman offering massages. It wasn't quite what I had intended... especially the part where she's massaging my legs while I'm laying on my back in a bikini. It felt great but, still, next time I'll hold out for a massage table!

Montanita

After I'd had enough sun on the beach, I wandered the streets of Montanita. The sun had dried the mud and I was able walk freely without fear of taking another spill. I found a nail saloon to complete my "spa day" with a mani/pedi then I made my way to Rose's for dinner. Sierra had introduced me to Rose's the previous night when she ate delicious-looking vegetarian burger. I wasn't hungry because I had already ate dinner. But, this time, I came hungry!

I ended the evening with a beer on the deck of The Beach where I watched the sunset and waited for Sierra to return from her day of surfing.

Expenses

I'm doing my best to track expenses in this spreadsheet for anyone that's interested in a similar, relatively low- budget trip.

Ecuador Fun Fact

The official currency of Ecuador is the US dollar. However, Ecuadorean-minted 1c, 5c, 10c, 25c and 50c coins are used in combination with US printed bills. Ecuadorean coins are the same size and value as their corresponding US coins but with different printing. Unlike US coins, the printing on Ecuadorean coins includes a number representing their value. While these Ecuadorean coins might have the same value as US coins, they are not valid in the Unites States.
