Boating to Icebergs, Newfoundland

Tom and I booked a boat tour to see icebergs and, with any luck, whales. Our tour with Iceberg Alley Boat Tours left from St. Anthony Bight... not to be confused with St. Anthony Harbor.

We almost missed the boat because we were at the wrong dock. I mistakenly thought I booked on the big tour boat we had seen from Fishing Point. It was packed with about 50 passengers. As we waited to board that boat, we learned they were shortening the tour from 2 hours to 1 hour and would only be touring the harbor... basically circling the iceberg we'd seen briefly the day before from Fishing Point. Tom and I weren't interested in doing that so I quickly called the reservation number to see if we could cancel. That's when I discovered we were at the wrong dock. Our boat was smaller, with fewer passengers, and still doing the full tour. We raced around the harbor to the right dock and enjoyed a chilly afternoon with the icebergs. Our captain did his best to find whales but in the rough water and thick fog, the whales eluded us. We did, however, see many puffins.
