Cannon Beach, Oregon or Bust Day 14

On Day 14 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, we were happy to be in one campsite, at Hungry Horse Reservoir, for two consecutive nights. It was a nice break after switching campsites each of the previous three nights during our visit to Glacier National Park.

Hungry Horse Reservoir

Hungry Horse Reservoir is only 18 miles south of the West Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park.

Tom and I had heard about Hungry Horse several years ago from a local that told us it was just as pretty as Glacier without the crowds. Having spent some time at both, I don't think their beauty is comparable because they're both beautiful in different ways. With that said, we thoroughly enjoyed our full day at Hungry Horse Reservoir and if we ever visit Glacier National Park again, we will likely camp at Hungry Horse Reservoir and take day trips to the park.

We arrived well after dark the first night and didn't get to see the lake or campground until the following morning. When the sun rose and we stepped out of our campers at Emery Bay Campground, we all agreed we wanted to stay another night. We had reserved Emery Bay Group Site 1 online just before arriving. It was very private... especially because Group Site 2, which was next to us, was vacant. We had the entire bluff to ourselves with amazing views of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Our dogs enjoyed significantly more freedom than they had in Glacier National Park. Although we did keep them within sight because of recent grizzly activity in the area including relatively fresh droppings at our campsite.

After a relaxing morning of taking pictures and trying Brock's one wheel board at our beautiful campsite, we brought our kayaks down to the lake. It was a bit too far to carry them so Tom and I parked our truck near the boat launch for the afternoon and unloaded our kayaks from there. We spent all afternoon and most of the evening peddling around the lake. Aly joined a puppy party on the beach. Then, after a short kayak around Hungry Horse Reservoir, she was ready for an afternoon nap while the rest of us continued exploring from the water.

We celebrated our last night of group camping with a bonfire and, of course, roasted Twinkies. In the morning, we took a few more pictures of our beautiful view from the bluff and said our goodbyes. Tom and I continued our journey west while our friends started their drive towards home.
