Cannon Beach, Oregon or Bust Day 19

When Tom and I started our road-trip almost 3 weeks ago, we didn't know exactly what path we would take or what we would see along the way. But we knew Cannon Beach was, approximately, our farthest destination. On Day 19 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, Tom and I finally made it to Cannon Beach!

Sights along the way

Soon after leaving our campsite in Fort Stevens State Park, we stopped at Sunset Beach State Recreational Site so Aly could run and burn off some energy. It was relatively early in the morning and we had most of the beach to ourselves. When Aly got tired of Sunset Beach, we drove farther south along the Oregon Coast to Cannon Beach.

It was almost 11am by the time we arrived at Cannon Beach and the streets were already bustling with tourists. We followed signs that led us to RV parking and, while Aly rested in the camper from her exhausting morning at the beach, Tom and I explored Cannon Beach. We walked along the beach to Haystack Rock, ate lunch at Bills Tavern, and explored the many shops and galleries. Tom and I originally planned on staying at an RV park in Cannon Beach. But, instead, we found a Harvest Host a little farther down the coast. We headed south on Highway 101 marking the beginning of our trip home to Colorado.

We spent the first night of our return trip in the city of Tillamook. If the name of this city sounds vaguely familiar, it may be from your grocer's freezer. Tillamook Ice cream and cheese come from Tillamook, Oregon. Another, smaller dairy producer, the Blue Heron French Cheese Company is also in Tillamook and they offer a large field for Harvest Host RVs to use. Ours was one of almost 50 RVs staying for the night. The grounds are beautiful with antique vehicles, a petting zoo, picnic garden, candy shop, wine shop, and a gift/cheese store. While boondocking at Harvest Host sites is technically "free", Tom and I spent a fortune on wine and cheese. Yum!
