Cannon Beach, Oregon or Bust Day 20

On Day 20 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, Tom and I started our day with a visit to Tillamook Creamery before continuing our drive east toward home.

Sights along the way

If I were stranded on a deserted island with only one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, I'd choose cheese. So, after a night of boondocking at and visiting the Blue Heron French Cheese Company in the city of Tillamook, we couldn't pass the opportunity to visit the much larger Tillamook Creamery before leaving town.

Tom and I enjoyed lunch at the Tillamook cafe which offered an appropriately cheesy menu. Tom ate a cheese burger, I had the mac and cheese and we shared some cheese curds. Everything was tasty with plenty of cheese. After lunch, we followed the self-guided tour through the visitor center. I got to feed little plastic calf and milk a big plastic cow. We watched the production of huge blocks of cheddar from the viewing deck and shopped in the cheese market. Our stomachs were still so full from lunch and our fridge was still so full of cheese from the Blue Heron French Cheese Company, that we managed to avoid buying cheese at the market. We did, however, buy a box of ice cream sandwiches for later.

Full of cheese, Tom and I continued our drive east toward wine country. We had hoped to boondock at a winery but it was Friday night and we waited too long to reserve a spot. So, instead we "camped" at the Elks Lodge in Salem, Oregon. This lodge has a large RV park with full hook-ups available to members at a low rate. While camping there on a Friday night, we enjoyed live blues music and meeting local Elks members. The Joanne Broh Band was great and, even though I rarely listen to blues, I plan to download their music from iTunes when I get a chance.
