On Day 5 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, Tom and I drove only a short distance (80 miles) from West Yellowstone, Montana to Harrison with a stop in Ennis along the way.
Sights along the way
Shortly after leaving our campsite at Cabin Creek Campground, in West Yellowstone, we passed Earthquake Lake. Earthquake Lake has an interesting history which you can learn about at the visitor center. We didn't stop on this trip because we visited there on a previous trip.
We drove along the Madison River as it veered north through the town of Ennis where we stopped at an Ennis fishing access site. The fishing access and campsite is only a mile from downtown Ennis on the Madison River. Beautiful homes on the other side of the river detracted from the "campground" feeling, so we found a campsite farther back from the river. All the sites around us were vacant so Aly had plenty of room to run. We considered staying the night at the Ennis campground but after hours of fishing in the river, Tom's sore feet and shoulders needed a break from standing and casting.We decided to drive a little farther north to find a lake where we could kayak.
We discovered Harrison Lake Campground on the shore of Willow Creek Reservoir. The campground is very spacious with vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits. We choose a campsite close to the water so we could easily carry our kayaks to the shore. Tom and I were a little disappointed at how murky the water was but we enjoyed peddling around. Aly didn't mind the murky water and she enjoyed running on the different beaches we kayaked up to. We practically had the lake to ourselves. Well, us and the birds.
Tom and I enjoyed a nice campfire with great views of the day-late Super Blue Moon. Aly didn't appreciate the fire as much. She was exhausted from her busy day and just wanted to go to bed. She was still exhausted the following morning when the sun woke us up. Camping wears a puppy out!
