Cannon Beach, Oregon or Bust Day 9

On Day 9 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, Tom and I caravanned with our friends, Dennis and Wendy, from Potomac, Montana to Lake Alva.

Lake Alva

Tom and I have passed Lake Alva many times on previous trips across Montana. It's located along Highway 83 between Clearwater and Kallispell, Montana. The drive along this stretch of highway is beautiful with many lakes and campgrounds. On this trip we chose to camp at Lake Alva based on a suggestion from our sister-in-law, Misty, that lives in the area. We wanted to kayak, so she recommended Lake Alva for its crystal clear water and campsites near the shore. Great recommendation!

We selected sites 36 and 38 in the North Camping Loop after discovering that the Group Camping Loop is now limited to Day Use. The North Camping Loop was a little farther from the boat ramp but it was practically empty. In fact, soon after we selected our sites, the camp host blocked our loop to new visitors so that he could close it for seasonal maintenance.

We all enjoyed a beautiful afternoon kayaking on the lake followed by dinner around the campfire. We weren't deterred by the intermittent rain storms which threatened our fire and soaked our seats. Fortunately, we had endless firewood to keep warm and dry up!

We hit the lake again early the following morning and were greeted by a family of camera-shy otters and a bald eagle. The south end of the lake was hidden under fog which quickly burned off to reveal a beautiful blue sky.
