On Day 9 of our RV trip to Des Moines, Iowa, Tom and I visited Big Creek State Park and the High Trestle Trail Bridge near Des Moines.
Exploring Big Creek State Park
We headed for Big Creek State Park first thing in the morning in hopes of kayaking on Big Creek Lake. Unfortunately the forecasted 30% chance of rain turned into a 100% downpour that came and went throughout the day. We opted for biking rather than kayaking so it was easier to find shelter when the clouds burst open. On the bright side, we practically had the park to ourselves!
Biking across High Trestle Trail Bridge
After exploring Big Creek State Park, we drove to a parking lot near the High Trestle Trail Bridge. We had originally planned on biking much of the way along the trail to the bridge. But since we already did some unplanned biking at the state park and didn't want to venture too far from our truck given the weather, we only biked the short distance across the bridge and back to the parking lot.
