Exploring Barachois Pond Provincial Park, Newfoundland

When Tom and I boarded the ferry for Newfoundland, we didn’t know which part of the island we would explore first. But, while boondocking in North Sydney the previous night, we met fellow boondockers, Rex and Trish.  They had visited Newfoundland several times before and were headed back there on the same ferry as us. Their first stop on Newfoundland was Barachois Pond Provincial Park and, by the time our ferry arrived in Newfoundland, we had decided to join them for two nights. Aly enjoyed their company as much as we did.

Barachois Pond Provincial Park has a large lake surrounded by trees and hiking trails. The campground is on the north site of the park, just a few minutes drive off Route 1.

Camping at Barachois Pond Provincial Park

The campground at Barachois Pond Provincial Park doesn’t have hookups at the sites but it does have facilities including showers and laundry. Most importantly, it has a beautiful lake and we were fortunate enough to get a site right by the water and right next to our new friends. Most of the sites are spacious with plenty of trees and vegetation for privacy.

Kayaking at Barachois Pond Provincial Park

While camping at Barachois Pond Provincial Park, we kayaked and fished. The lake is much bigger than a “pond” and there were plenty of areas for us to explore away from the campsites and swim beaches. We had hoped to go kayaking again the morning before we left but it was pouring rain. So, we loaded our kayaks between downpours and headed on to our next adventure.
