Exploring Bishop’s Falls and Grand Falls

While camping at Notre Dame Provincial Park for 3 days, Tom and I took advantage of the camper being unloaded. We drove to nearby Bishop’s Falls and Grand Falls to explore and run errands.

Exploring Bishop’s Falls

Tom and I passed through Bishop’s Falls on our way to Twillingate the previous week. We had hoped to see the old trestle bridge that was once responsible for connecting the islands on both sides of the Exploits River. The bridge, however, wasn’t visible from the highway. Now, with some time to kill before Tom’s guided fishing trip, we went searching for it. As Google maps led us along the river and under the bridge, we were happy we’d unloaded our camper. But, out of habit, driving under the low clearance bridge made us cringe.

The beautiful trestle bridge is now used as part of a bike/ pedestrian trail.

After visiting the trestle bridge, Tom and I hoped to find a car wash. While both our truck and camper needed a good wash, finding a car wash tall enough for our camper is difficult. With our camper unloaded, we could at least wash the truck. Unfortunately, we didn’t find a car wash in Bishop’s Fall so we headed a little farther west to Grand Falls.

Exploring Grand Falls

Tom and I stopped in Grand Falls the previous week to resupply so we were already a little familiar with this relatively large town. It has just about anything we would need including a car wash…. And liquor store!

By the time we finished our errands, we were hungry. There happened to be an Indian restaurant across the street from where we parked in the Walmart parking lot. After a delicious meal, we headed back to our campground without even setting foot in the Walmart. I’m pretty sure that’s a first!
