Exploring Southern Michigan

Tom and I enjoyed four days in Southern Michigan visiting our old friends, Doug and Bambi. We were living a life of luxury the first two days, staying in their beautiful riverfront home in Macomb Country. We boondocked the last two days at their wonderful lakefront place in the Irish Hills.

Exploring Macomb County, Michigan

Tom and I had an amazing time reconnecting with our friends and exploring Macomb County. Aly had as much fun playing with their adorable dog, "Big D", as we did exploring the area with our friends.

We visited a local farm to pick fresh strawberries. The rainy weather didn't stop us but it may have motivated us to pick faster. The strawberries were perfect and, together, we filled a big box of the ripest, most flavorful strawberries I've ever tasted. After picking strawberries, we stopped for lunch at Marine City Fish Company and ice cream at the Sweet Tooth of Marine City. And, if that wasn't enough sweets, we ended the day with fresh strawberry pie from our morning harvest!

The following day, Tom and I joined our friends for a morning kayak on Salt River which leads to Lake Saint Clair. The weather was perfect and the beautiful swans, blue herons, and turtles made it even better. The dogs stayed home but were excited to greet us when we returned.

When we weren't exploring the surrounding areas, we enjoyed relaxing on the deck. We had a beautiful view of the water and wildlife including several sandhill cranes and a couple crazy dogs!

Exploring Irish Hills, Michigan

After 2 nights in Macomb County, Tom and I joined our friends for a weekend in the Irish Hills of Michigan. We had a great time floating the lake on our kayaks and in their family pontoon boat. Tom even got to fish for the first time on this trip. We enjoyed meals with the whole family and a campfire in the rain.

When Tom and I packed up our camper and were ready to take off, Aly was willing to let us leave without her. She thinks the Irish Hills with her buddy, "Big D", are the best things EVER! Tom practically had to drag her to the truck!
