Holeinsky Vineyard and Winery

Tom and I visited the Holeinsky Vineyard and Winery during one of our trips across Idaho. It’s located about 20 miles northwest of Twin Falls; in the town of Buhl, Idaho. We found the winery on our Harvest Host app when we were looking for a place to boondock. After parking our camper in a designated RV spot Tom and I stopped in the tasting room to sample the wines. It ended up being one of the most fun and memorable evenings of our trip.

Gift shop and tasting room

The small gift shop has a variety of wine-related items to purchase and the walls are decorated with their many award-winning wines. Pass through the gift shop to enter the wine-tasting room and wine bar. Tom can't help but smile when surrounded by so much wine!

Wine and charcuterie board

You can enjoy your wine in the tasting room or on the deck overlooking the beautiful grounds. Our wine-tasting included samples of six Holeinsky wines and we ordered a charcuterie board to go along with them. The charcuterie board included our choice of two cheeses from their selection of Evans Farmstead Cheese. There were so many options it was hard to choose. We finally decided on Garlic Chive Cheddar and Jalapeño Gouda. They were fabulous and I'd bet we couldn't go wrong with any of the flavors.

I’m not a big wine-drinker and rarely like more than one or two wines at any tasting. But, either I was really thirsty or the Holeinsky wines are good! After the tasting we purchased three of the six wines to take home and another bottle to top of the evening.

Entertainment

The grounds surrounding Holeinsky Winery are enchanting. The deck overlooks a large, well-manicured lawn with yard games. And, small bridges lead from there to a beautiful pond.

A large tent provides shelter for special events during the summer. We were a few days too late for the dueling pianos and a month too late for the special Mother’s Day event. Maybe we’ll plan ahead for our next visit to catch one of the events. Or, maybe not. We had plenty of fun with no planning!

Queen Barbara

During our visit to the winery, we met Queen Barbara. She and her husband started acquiring this land decades ago. After her husband passed away, their son, James, and his wife, turned the land into a successful wine business in honor of his father’s dream. Now, Barbara enjoys visiting (and entertaining) guests in her role as “The Queen of FE Everything”. She’s quite a character and we had a blast spending the evening with her and the other boondocking guests.

Dog-friendly

I never imagined a dog could enjoy a winery as much as people. We had planned to leave our crazy dog, Aly, in our camper. But when the Queen insisted we bring her up to the dog-friendly deck, we complied. Aly immediately befriended 5-month-old Miles and, along with Barbara’s granddog, they raced all over the beautiful lawn and down to the pond. We had as much fun watching them as they had running.

Boondocking

After hours of wine, cheese, and endless laughs, we finally ended with our primary goal, boondocking. We camped at the end of a dirt road with three other RVs surround by trees and vineyards. A perfect end to a perfect day visiting Holeinsky Vineyard and Winery.
