Navajo Lake State Park or Bust

After a month at home, Tom and I were anxious to hit the road again. We only have time for a short trip so we decided to head down to Navajo Lake State Park in northern New Mexico. It’s less than a 6-hour drive from home and the weather is looking beautiful.

We left home relatively early in the morning heading west on Highway 24 then South on Highway 285. We enjoyed beautiful views of Mount Princeton and the Collegiate Peaks before stopping for a break at the Crossroads Welcome Center.

From there we continued south on Highway 285 then west on 112 near Center, Colorado. That led us to Del Norte, Colorado where we took Highway 160 west over Wolf Creek Pass and the Continental Divide.

As we dropped down the other side of the pass, the views were stunning and the air was fresh!

We enjoyed lunch at Ramon’s Mexican Restaurant in Pagosa Springs before starting the last leg of our journey south. The landscape quickly changed from forest to desert as we approached the New Mexico state line and drove down the dirt road to our campsite along the San Juan River.
