Off-Roading to Lost Spring Mountain

Tom and I hadn't planned to go off-roading during our road-trip to Zion National Park. But, when I reached out to my old friend and former colleague, Scott, to let him know we were in town, he offered to take us on one of his weekly off-roading adventures. It was an unexpected and wonderful addition to our trip!

Access

The off-road trip Scott led the week we were visiting, happened to start at the Chevron station in Apple Valley near where we were staying. That's convenient! We left our Jeep at the station and joined Scott in his "Happy Place" Jeep. From there, Scott led almost a dozen off-road vehicles across the Arizona border to a dirt road near Colorado City, AZ then up to the top of Lost Spring Mountain.

Highlights

I had a great time catching up with Scott as we climbed the dirt roads to the top of Lost Spring Mountain. We hadn't seen each other since we last worked together in California in 1999! We were so busy catching up we missed a couple turns but it was well worth it. We continued catching up on the past 25 years as we enjoyed the views from the top of the mountain. Scott led the group on a short hike to an old water glyph on one of the rocks then we sat down for lunch on the mountain. After making our way down from Lost Spring Mountain, Scott took us on a route around the mesas before returning to Apple Valley.
