New Mexico to Colorado

When Tom and I boondocked at the Sierra Grande Rest Area in New Mexico, we were less than four hours from home and excited to finish the last leg of our trip.

We woke early and hit the road under a blanket of fog. Within 10 minutes, as we approached Raton, New Mexico, we climbed out of the fog and into a crisp but beautiful sunrise .

We continued climbing to the summit of Raton Pass in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains, and crossed into Colorado.

During the past 7+ weeks Tom, Aly and I traveled more than 3,500 miles (5700 km) across 5 states. While our ultimate destination was South Padre Island, the journey there and back was just as much fun.

Tom and I are already thinking about our next adventure. But, first, we have to repair the damage our camper sustained from the highway debris and hail storm in Texas. Fortunately we enjoy being home as much as we enjoy exploring the rest of the world. While we’re home, I’ll share some of the many adventures that can be found in the Pikes Peak Region of the beautiful Colorado Rockies.
