San Antonio

Tom and I started our return to Colorado from South Padre Island with a 2-day visit to San Antonio, Texas.

Kingsville Dog Park

About halfway between South Padre Island and San Antonio, we stopped at Aly’s favorite dog park. We had discovered Vishal Raju Bhagat Memorial Dog Park on our way down. On our way up, it was the perfect time and place for a lunch break. Aly even got to play with the same dogs she met during our first visit a month earlier!

Camping at San Antonio/Alamo KOA RV Park

We arrived at the San Antonio/Alamo KOA that afternoon. Tom and I agree it’s the nicest KOA we’ve ever stayed at. It’s located east of downtown next to the Willow Springs Golf Course. The KOA is a beautiful tree-covered site with a pool, activity hall, and even a fishing pond.

Aly’s favorite part of the KOA was the pretty dog park and the many friends she met there!

While Aly rested up from all her dog-play, Tom and I enjoyed bike rides along the Salado Creek Greenway. It runs right next to the KOA and offers more than 20 miles of beautiful trails.

Exploring Downtown San Antonio

A metro bus stop in front of the KOA enabled Tom and I to visit downtown San Antonio without having to drive. It was a single 25-minute bus ride. And, using the Transit app we could easily buy tickets and track the bus’s location.

We enjoyed walking around what’s left of the historic Alamo site including the church where the last of the fighting occurred.

After visiting the Alamo, Tom and I explored the San Antonio River Walk. It was even prettier than we expected, especially from our boat’s-eye view!

While the Alamo was our main reason for visiting San Antonio, an added benefit was the chance to reconnect with friends we met during our first weekend on South Padre Island. We enjoyed great company and great food at Rosarios.

Soon after returning to KOA for our last night in San Antonio, a hailstorm blew into town and scared Aly so much she had to shelter in our bed for the night. In the morning, Tom patched two new holes in our skylight before we hit the road. Next stop, Austin!
