Austin

After leaving San Antonio, we took Interstate 35 north a relatively short distance to our next destination, Austin, Texas.

Aly helped Tom navigate as we drove through downtown Austin on the crowded highway.

Aly and Sammy

Aly enjoyed meeting her cousin, Sammy, for the first time. Sammy was very tolerant of Aly’s puppy ways. Sammy shared her toys, which Aly promptly shredded. And she even taught Aly how to open the screen door. To help burn off excess puppy energy, Aly took us to visit one of the many dog parks around Austin. McCann Dog Park is a primitive/natural park located along a beautiful walking/biking trail. The dog park is a short walk from the McCann Park trailhead.

Recreation Areas

During our weekend in Austin, we enjoyed catching up with family and exploring the Texas hill country near Austin. We explored both Gloster Bend Recreation Area and Turkey Bend Recreation Area, which are just a few of the many parks managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority. During this trip we only visited for the day but we look forward to a future camping trip. Some of the parks, including Turkey Bend, offer spacious campsites right along the river!

Texas Donuts

I’m embarrassed (or at least I should be) to admit that one of the highlights of my weekend was our visit to RoundRock Donuts. How could I resist ordering a chocolate-covered Texas donut? I’m unsure if Tom was more stunned at the size of the donut or at how happy I was to get it!
