Pipe Spring National Monument

Tom and I visited Pipe Spring National Monument during our roadtrip to Zion National Park.

Access

Pipe Spring National Monument is located on the Kaibab Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona. It's easily accessible from Highway 389 in Northern Arizona and has a large parking lot that can accommodate large RVs.

Pipe Spring National Monument has a visitor center and museum with a large outdoor area and historic buildings. The entrance fee at the time of our visit was $10 per person. However, if you have a National Parks Pass, entrance is free for you and up to three of your companions.

Highlights

The museum provides a great overview of this little oasis in the desert. The natural spring was a rare source of water in the Arizona Strip and source of conflict between the native Kaibab people, the Mormon settlers and the US government. Each of these historic stakeholders are represented by artifacts and exhibits in the museum and surrounding grounds. You can go inside Windsor Castle, the most prominent of the historic buildings. And, from there, you can walk the half mile Ridge Trail to learn more about Pipe Spring's history and vegetation.
