South Padre Island, Texas or Bust Day 5

On Day 5 of our RV trip to Texas, Tom and I were finally on our way again and happy to cross the New Mexico and Texas state borders.

Highlights

When Tom and I woke up Monday morning, we were unsure if we'd get our truck back that day or even that week. The technicians at the RAM dealer had been thawing our truck's DEF system all weekend. When we still hadn't heard from them by noon, we worried they may have uncovered more problems.

Tom and I decided to drive our loaner car into Trinidad to pick up a few things at Walmart then stop by the RAM Dealer to get a status report. When we pulled up to the RAM service center, our truck was parked out front. We took that as a good sign... and it was! We traded the loaner car for our truck and hurried back to our campsite at Gears RV Park to load up and hit the road.

Tom and I were relieved to finally drive over Raton Pass and into New Mexico. Texas was our goal for the night and, with the sun selling behind us, we crossed into the Texas Panhandle. We stopped for the night at the Hartley Picnic Area just past Dalhart, Texas.

Challenges

Tom and I had originally planned a leisurely 7-day drive from Colorado to South Padre Island. Not only did we want to enjoy the sights along the way, but frequent and longer stops are easier on our aging bodies! So, while we are thrilled to be back on the road and eager to catch up with our friends, we're not excited about cramming our seven day drive into three.
