South Padre Island, Texas or Bust Day 6

On Day 6 of our RV trip to Texas, Tom and I drove more than 570 miles from our boondocking site near Dalhart, Texas to San Antonio, Texas.

Highlights

Tom and I woke early in the morning and were on the road by 4:30am. We drove through "Amarillo by Morning" but it was still dark outside. However, we enjoyed an amazing sunrise near Plainview and classic views of Texas along the way. Texans are proud of their state and it was rare to see a flag of the United States flying without a Texas flag right alongside! . The highlight of our day, and our motivation to drive so far in one day, was having dinner with our friends, Leta and Bill, in San Antonio.

Challenges

Driving so far in one day was a challenge. Tom did all the driving and wasn't particularly thrilled about navigating the hilly and windy roads through Hill Country north of San Antonio. But, I encouraged him with possible sightings of George Strait. Apparently Tom's idol, the King of Country, owns a big ranch in the Hill Country and I was sure we'd find it on our way to Leta and Bill's home!
