South Padre Island, Texas or Bust Day 12

Day 12 of our RV trip to South Padre Island, Texas, was windy and chilly. It was a good day to catch up on chores so we drove across the bridge to Port Isabel.

Highlights

We were in no rush to go outside first thing in the morning so we enjoyed a "gourmet" breakfast of home fries and chocolate banana smoothies. Aly anxiously awaited Tom's leftovers then demanded her morning beach time. It was only our fifth day on the island but Aly was had her routine and wasn't going to let us change it. Tom and I weren't thrilled about driving the 8 miles to the north beach, like we had been doing because, with the strong winds, we didn't expect to stay on the beach very long. We were happy to learn that a small beach, only a few minute walk from our campsite, was relatively dog-friendly and not crowded. Aly even met a new buddy there... a huge Rottweiler that made Aly look small... and wore her out!

I had hoped to play my first day of pickleball that morning but when I checked the courts, which are only a few minute walk from our campsite, they were understandably empty due to the wind. However, the morning Beach Bodies workout was still on! Terri, our fabulous leader, moved it from the boardwalk to the more sheltered area near the pavilion. Also, just a few minute walk from our strategically selected campsite!

The windy weather was the perfect opportunity for us to catch up on laundry and other errands. There is only one public laundromat on the island and we figured it would be crowded with other people also avoiding the windy beaches. Instead, we went to Port Isabel. Tom dropped me and our laundry off at the 115 Laundry Laundromat which had plenty of open machines. And, it was walking distance to Dairy Queen and the Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site. I killed time visiting the lighthouse with a DQ Blizzard while Tom drove a little farther into Port Isabel to get a haircut and pick up a few things at Dollar Tree.

We ended the day with a few drinks, good friends and several rounds of Sequence.

Challenges

The wind was the worst part of the day but we desperately needed clean laundry and I'd been craving a Turtle Pecan Blizzard so it worked out just fine!
