South Padre Island, Texas or Bust Day 14

On Day 14 of our RV trip to South Padre Island, Texas, we stayed on the island and settled into a relatively consistent routine.

Highlights

Our days always start with running Aly on the beach. And, if the weather cooperates, as it did today, I play pickleball while Tom goes to the gym. After our morning activities, we clean up and rest up for the afternoon evening activities.

We learned from friends, that Windjammer's Beachfront Cafe, at the Isla Grand Hotel, offers a Mexican buffet on Wednesdays. It's all you can eat for $19.99 and if you buy 2 drinks, you get a second buffet for free. Tom and I met a big group for other Winter Texans, many from Colorado, for the buffet. From there most of us biked to the nearby Holiday Inn Resort for live music and dancing. The singer, Tim Hadler, recognized our group from previous encounters and immediately began singing Rocky Mountain High to welcome us. He accommodated us with many requests including Walker Hayes AA, which he learned on the fly so we could line dance to it. And, before the night was over, we sang along to Sweet Caroline.

Challenges

My only challenge for the day was resisting the Mexican Buffet as Windjammer's. I ate before joining the group at Windjammers because I was afraid the buffet wouldn't have enough vegetarian food to make it worthwhile for me. And, most of the food, including the beans, included some form of meat or seafood. But, the fresh tortillas, guacamole, and salsa looked amazing. I'm sure I could eat $10 worth of just those! So, with any luck, we'll return on another Wednesday. Count me in!
