South Padre Island, Texas or Bust Days 20 - 21

Days 20 & 21 of our RV trip to South Padre Island, Texas, were typical days on the island.

Highlights

While taking Aly to the beach in the morning, I looked across the water toward Starbase. I immediately noticed the top of the rocket had been added since the previous evening when we visited the launch site. I also noticed sunbeams shining through the clouds beyond the Cristo de los Pescadores statue. The statue was built in the late 1990s as a memorial to fishermen that died at sea. Today it welcomes fisherman back to port after a safe voyage. Located directly across from Starbase, it struck me that statue may soon welcome space travelers back to port.

After our morning walks on the beach with Aly, I played pickleball and Tom went to the gym and fishing on his kayak. We met friends at Clayton's for live music and dancing one afternoon then went next door to Bar Louie for more music and dancing.

On Valentines Day we enjoyed a romantic dinner for 6 at Russo's. The three guys ordered the 28" pizza and will be eating leftovers all week! I couldn't resist the special heart-shaped pizza. Being vegetarian, I had it all to myself and almost managed to eat the whole thing! Actually, I would have finished it but we were in hurry to catch the crab races next door. We ended our Valentines Day with a romantic date for 16 watching crabs race across a table at the Quarterdeck.

Challenges

Tom and the guys were definitely challenged by the huge pizza.
