Boondocking near Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland

After several days of camping and kayaking at River of Ponds, Tom and I made our way south on Route 430 to Gros Morne National Park. There are many campgrounds in the park but we decided to boondock in some of the communities that are scattered along Route 430 and just outside the park boundaries.

Our first stop was Whale's Back Grub Hub for lunch. In addition to the tasty apple fritters and lobster rolls, we were happy to find they had free WiFi. We could even access the WiFi from the parking lot. After lunch we relaxed in the camper and came up with a game plan for visiting the park. We made reservations for the Western Brook Pond boat tour the following morning and used iOverlander to check our boondocking options near the meeting place for the boat tour.

Boondocking Near St. Paul's

Tom and I found a beautiful place to boondock along the coast near St Pauls. We parked on the side of a dirt road overlooking the gulf of St Lawrence. A perfect spot to watch the sunset and fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves.

Boondocking at Norris Point

After a full day exploring Gros Morn National Park, Tom and I found ourselves near the south end of the park. We hadn't planned on driving out the dead end road to Norris Point until we found an interesting boondocking site on iOverlander. It indicated a large parking lot near the Cat Stop Restaurant and Pub. So, we gave it a shot. The parking spot itself wasn't anything special but it was conveniently located for an evening at the pub.

The Cat Stop is located right on the docks of Bonne Bay with beautiful views of the bay from the pub decks. We had a wonderful time meeting other tourists and locals. Several locals began singing and, with our encouragement, they retrieved their instruments and played a set. We eventually asked the bartender if dogs are allowed on the deck. And, when we brought Aly out, everyone was disappointed we hadn't brought her out sooner.

After a fun evening in Norris Point, Tom and I kicked off our morning with a hike from the trailhead near the pub.
