Cannon Beach, Oregon or Bust Day 2

This is our 9th RV trip in our truck/camper. Tom had put almost 14,000 miles on the truck since we got it last November. I say "Tom" because I have never driven it, until today. Tom say's it's because I'm a "girl" and can't handle the big beast. And, I let him believe that for all these months because I would soooo much rather see the sights and take pictures than drive. Not to mention it's easier on my back if I can move around as a passenger instead of sitting still as the driver. But, on Day 2 of our RV trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon, we drove more than 400 miles and Tom decided he needed some help. So, the "girl" got to drive the big beast for the first time... on the relatively deserted roads across central Wyoming. Fine! I can drive the beast.... but it doesn't mean I want to!

Sights along the way

After an exhausting morning at the Cherry Creek Dog Park, Aly missed most of the sights between Cherry Creek State Park and the Wyoming state line. She couldn't even stay awake until we reached Interstate 25 near Denver, much less Wyoming!

While Wyoming might be best known for beef, cowboys and Yellowstone National Park, the many signs and businesses at the Colorado/Wyoming state line could lead you to believe pyrotechnics is Wyoming's primary industry. That's because most fireworks are illegal in Colorado. So, many Coloradans drive up to Wyoming, just across the state line, to buy fireworks.

Soon after passing the state line and the many fireworks stores, we passed the minimal skyline of Cheyenne, the state capital of Wyoming. As Tom and I continued north on Interstate 25 the landscape was noticeably drier than it was when we passed through a month earlier on our trip to Des Moines, Iowa. But, the sky was bright blue with lots of small puffy clouds, so it was still a pretty drive.

Tom and I headed west from Interstate 25 at Casper, Wyoming. We drove through the beautiful Wind River Reservation along Boysen Reservoir and the Bighorn River through Wind River Canyon. Soon after exiting the canyon, we entered the town of Thermopolis, Wyoming where we found a campsite at the Wyoming Gardens RV Park and a drink down the street, at the OEB (One Eyed Buffalo) Saloon.
