Exploring Grand Falls, New Brunswick

Tom and I visited Grand Falls, New Brunswick which is just across the border from Maine. The town of Grand Falls sits inside a horseshoe bend on the Saint John River and gets its name from the waterfalls within the river bend.

The visitor center is located at the falls. It has a big parking lot and picnic areas with decks that overlook the falls. We ate lunch in our camper in the parking lot then started our exploration of Grand Falls.

From the visitor center parking lot, we followed a trail across the river and down to the gorge. The walk across the bridge provided great view of the falls, but if you prefer a more adventurous method for crossing the river, you can “Zip Zag” on the zip lines!

Part of the trail was closed for repairs when we visited so the helpful staff at the visitor center suggested a short detour through town. That detour also led us past a monument of Secretariat and his rider, Ron Turcotte, a Grand Falls native and current resident.
