Colorado May 2023

After a night of boondocking at the beautiful Peachfork Orchards and Vineyards, Tom and I continued our drive east on Interstate 70 for the final leg of our Oregon Road-trip.

We made a quick stop in Parachute where we found a convenient and free RV dump station. It’s a strange location in a dilapidated parking lot. The faded sign at the parking lot entrance is for the Parachute Rafting Center. A Google search indicates the Parachute Rafting Center is permanently closed, which explains the neglected parking lot. There appeared to be some people boondocking in the otherwise deserted parking lot. Fortunately the RV dump station was in good shape and we were happy to empty our tanks before getting home.

The Colorado River was raging with the season’s snow melt as we continued driving east from Parachute into Glenwood Canyon.

We stopped for a break at the beautiful No Name Rest Area. This was our first time to visit this rest area and we were very impressed. It’s located on the Colorado River with easy access to the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path which extends for 16 miles from Glenwood Springs through the canyon along the Colorado River.

The rest area has several parking lots to accommodate cars and RVs. It doesn’t have a fenced dog park but it has plenty of grass and paths for dogs to walk on-leash.

The restroom facilities are very nice with great views of the Rocky Mountains in every direction.

As we continued our drive east through Glenwood Canyon, we passed the melting ski slopes of Vail, crossed the Continental Divide via Hoosier Pass and dropped down into South Park below.

After traveling 2,500 miles, our 11-day road-trip came to an end. We returned home to snow-covered views of America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak.
