Traveling Across Oregon

After enjoying four days in the Fort Klamath area, we continued our journey to Bend, Oregon. We took Highway 62 east from Fort Klamath then Highway 97 north to Bend.

Bend, Oregon

We were only in Bend for one evening but it was enough to know we’d like to return in the future. Bend is a beautiful “small” city with a population of about 102,000. It’s located at the east edge of the Cascade Mountains and spreads across both sides of the Deschutes River. Bend offers all the outdoor activities you would expect from a mountain town. Unfortunately we only had time to visit a local dog park and restaurant. Both were excellent!

Rimrock Trail/Good Dog Park

We found the best dog park ever in Bend! It’s not a typical dog park. The Rimrock Trail is just outside the Bend city limits in Deschutes National Forest and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. It is also known as the Good Dog Park because well behaved dogs are allowed to enjoy the area off-leash!

The Rimrock Trail includes several miles of hiking trails with plenty of trees and access to the Deschutes River. What a GREAT dog park!

Taj Palace Indian Cuisine

After wearing Aly out at the dog park, we felt relatively confident that we could enjoy a nice dinner without her eating our truck. So, Tom and I met Sierra, my daughter, at Taj Palace Indian Cuisine for dinner. When we arrived, we were surprised to find they offer a dinner buffet.

While Sierra and I were looking at the buffet and discussing whether we wanted to order specific meals or the buffet, the server overheard that we’re both vegetarian. He offered to bring us extra vegetarian options in addition to the buffet. We both agreed there were more than enough vegetarian choices on the buffet but by the time we loaded our plates and sat at our table, he already brought more dishes for us to try.

All the food was fabulous! It was, by far, the best Indian buffet I’ve had… outside of India! We were so busy eating we, apparently, had no time to take pictures. Too bad, it looked as great as it tasted! We washed our huge plates of food down with mango lassis and waddled back to our truck. Tom and I were happy to find a sleeping dog and our truck intact!

Boondocking at Sage Hen Rest Area

We had plenty of daylight left after dinner… Yay May! Tom and I said goodbye to Sierra and headed east on Highway 20, hoping to put a few miles behind us on our journey home. We made it to the Sage Hen Rest Area, just east of Riley, Oregon, as the sun was setting. Early to bed, early to rise… and hit the road again!
