Exploring Dildo Run Provincial Park

Tom and I stayed one night at Dildo Run Provincial Park as we made our way from Twillingate to Gander. It’s located on New World Island and it looked like a beautiful place to kayak.

Camping at Dildo Run Provincial Park

We pulled up to the entrance booth for the campground and learned, from the attendant, that they had several open sites along the water. We considered booking several nights right then. However, Tom and I have learned from experience that just because a campground is on a lake and has waterfront sites, doesn’t mean the water is easy to access with kayaks. So, we only booked one night and agreed to walk back up to the booth if we decided to stay additional nights.

Unfortunately, while our campsite and many others are near the water, they’re on a small cliff  with dense trees making it tough to even see the water much less drag kayaks to the water. Only a few areas in the campground offer good views of the water. Beautiful! It would be an amazing place to kayak but not worth the effort. So, we only stayed one night and focused on chores…. laundry and housecleaning.

In addition to a small laundry room, the campground has nice, large shower facilities, a dump station and a games lawn. A playground and the only WiFi is available in the day use area. It also has some fun artifacts from a former tramway.
